The remains of the trailer got hauled away to the dump on Thursday and we're just waiting for that bill to come in now.
My mom was able to recover a few more things. Some tables, the dinning, coffee and end tables as well as the dinning chairs. They we are wrought iron and glass. The chairs need to be reupholstered and they all need to be cleaned up, but are otherwise fine. She also recovered some of her documents (birth certificate, etc).
My wife and I went and got some insurance on the contents of our apartment and it was only about $25/month for the coverage we got. We had a really great experience with bcaa here in the lower mainland, but there are some ads on the story page that should be of some assistance if you're not in BC.
Don't put it off. It's still crappy to lose everything, but it will make it easier to rebuild your life afterwards.
We're starting to talk about the future, but there's not too much we can do until we have the money to replace the trailer with something (I am thinking about writing a post on affordable housing).
So far these pages are not seeing much traffic and have not generated any ad revenue yet. It's still early. I've (unfortunately) spammed most of my friends' walls in Facebook with the link. Maybe they can help spread the link to more people.
My mom seems to be doing okay. She can be a determined and practical woman when she needs to be.
